Characteristics

The eastern spot-billed duck exhibits no sexual dimorphism. Its bill is black with a yellow tip, and its feet are reddish orange. The bird is light brown from its head to neck and has white eyebrows and black eye lines. A black stripe also stretches from the base of the bill to below the eye. The eastern spot-billed duck has a generally dark gray-brown body and is a common winter visitor and partial resident species.
Habits: The eastern spot-billed duck mainly follows a plant-based diet including algae, grass stems, and seeds, but also feeds on some snails and insects.
Resident/Uncommon, Winter/Uncommon; Body length: 60 cm
Birdwatching period: August-May

Distribution

The eastern spot-billed duck is active in estuaries, sandbars, lakes, and marshes.
